About Work of A.R.T.

Work of A.R.T. was created by Andrea Ruth Troughton in 2015 with the mission to help women feel better. Much has changed over the years, but that mission remains stronger than ever.

Andrea struggled with body image and self worth for most of her life, and after working in the bar and restaurant industry for many years, navigating grief and trauma with little support, she developed coping strategies that negatively impacted her life and wellbeing. Working with a personal trainer was the first step  toward the positive lifestyle changes that finally made her feel better not just physically, but emotionally too, and she was inspired to change careers to help other women like herself.

Andrea received diplomas with honours in Exercise Science, and Holistic Nutrition, and is a CSEP Certified Personal Trainer, NASM Corrective Exercise Specialist, and CSNN Certified Holistic Nutritional Consultant. She went on to receive additional training in somatics, trauma informed fitness, and eating disorder awareness and risk mitigation.

After more than a decade working with clients in the fitness and wellness industry, and almost as many years of personal and professional development, Andrea saw a pattern of disconnect between understanding the value of exercise and nutrition, and actually developing lifelong, health promoting habits, and a peaceful relationship with our bodies. This disconnect was often related to the complex relationships we have with food, movement, and can be further complicated by pain, illness, mental health challenges, and various other physical and social barriers.

Work of A.R.T. Coaches understand that that self-care is not one-size-fits-all, and that wellness comes from a combination of strategies that honour each person’s individuality, capacity, and  lived experience.

We strive to reduce barriers to access by sharing and advocating for accessible, sustainable wellness practices, offering sliding scale pricing, and low cost, or free community events.
